I am commanded by My Lords Commissioners
of the Admiralty to refer to your letter of the 11th
February, 1938, No.53547/38, on the subject of the
Arsenal Yard in Hong Kong, and to state that negotiations
for the acquisition from the Hong Kong Government of
the area coloured red on Plan No.1281/37, which
accompanied Admiralty letter dated 18th January, 1938
(C.E.in C.0457/37/57b), are being proceeded with.

2. To meet future pressing needs for accommodation
at Hong Kong, My Lords are mindful of the limited extent
of land available and are of the opinion that the
situation can only be solved by the eventual acquisition
of the landward portion of the Arsenal Yard, i.e. the
area coloured blue on plan. They are therefore anxious
that this area should be available for Naval use when
provision of the necessary funds has been made.
